On Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m., a sneak preview of Joseph Costelo's Jack Kerouac-inspired road film "American Saint" (2001, 90 minutes, USA) starring Kevin Corrigan and Vincent Schiavelli will be offered. The showing will be preceded by Gregg Lachow's short film "I'm Working on a Building" (9 minutes). Actor Schiavelli and director Lachow will discuss the films following the screenings. On Thursday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. the L.A. premiere of the documentary "Boom: the Sound of Eviction" (2001, 97 minutes, USA) offers a probing look at the devastating effect the short-lived dot com boom had on San Francisco's real estate market. The film is directed by the activist filmmaking collective, Whispering Media. It will be preceded by Jeremiah Zagar's "Delhi House." (2002, 11 minutes, USA), a documentary of a non-profit organization in India rehabilitating the sickest and poorest street-dwellers.
On Thursday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m., the L.A. premiere of Lucia Small's "My Father, the Genius" (2002, 84 minutes, USA), a personal documentary of the filmmaker's relationship with her estranged father, Glen Small, an eccentric but visionary L.A. architect, will be screened. This film was the Grand Jury Prize Winner for best documentary at the 2002 Slamdance Film Festival. It will show with two other award winners, Atsuko Kubota's "Better Life" (14 minutes); and Tom Gibbons' animated "The Hunger Artist" (16 minutes).
